Chronic malnutrition is a major problem in Nepal, affecting 10% of the population.

To improve the level of nutrition in Nepalese communities, the Antenna Fondation, in collaboration with our local partner Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness (ECCA), has launched the "Green Schools Project".

By using an agroecological approach, pupils from participating have been trained in agricultural techniques enable them to grow vegetables on previously unexploited land. The vegetables are used by the school canteen to prepare healthy meals for pupils, while the surplus production is sold to the community, helping to finance the maintenance of the gardens.

The students also receive education on nutrition and sustainable agricultural practices, knowledge which they then pass on back into the community.

For more information about the techniques used in this project, please download the full manual for beginners in school gardening.
